Local Digital Channels

IMPORTANT The transition to digital television has arrived. On June 12th, 2009 all television stations are required to move to all-digital broadcasts. Because some digital stations may be moving to different channel numbers after the DTV transition, consumers who have installed digital converter boxes or digital televisions may find it necessary to perform the “Auto Channel Scan” function once again on June 12th and the morning of June 13th as broadcast stations complete their upgrades. The “Auto Channel Scan” function can be done through the converter box or digital television setup menu. Performing this function will potentially help consumers enjoy additional channels and better picture quality.

OK, so you’re interested in or you’ve just purchased a DTV converter box. How many local digital channels are available in your area? Most regions of the country offer significantly more independent, digital TV channels than you’re accustomed to receiving. They provide more local news, are more educational, entertaining, multicultural and diverse. New TV stations and sub-channels are emerging every month.
One thing to consider with digital signals is that the distance traveled over the airwaves is less than those of analog signals. Therefore, depending on your specific location, building type, location relative to nearby tall buildings and trees, you may not receive all digital channels in your area. If the digital signal is not sufficient, the channel will be blacked out on your television.
